Seojung Jang is a lighting designer working across theatre, musical theatre, opera, and dance. She is based in Chicago and works in New York and Seoul. She passed the USA 829 Lighting Design Examination in 2026 and is currently completing the membership registration process.
Originally from South Korea, Seojung earned her MFA in Lighting Design from Northwestern University in 2024. In 2025, she received the USITT YDMT Barbizon Jonathan Resnick Lighting Design Award and Opera America’s Robert L. B. Tobin Director-Designer Prize.
Her recent design credits include Furlough’s Paradise at Geva Theatre Center, Birds of North America at A Red Orchid Theatre, Happy Birthday Mars Rover at the University of Chicago, and The Dress-Up Play at Jackalope Theatre. Her work spans productions of varied scales and styles, from intimate community venues to large proscenium theatres.
In addition to her design practice, Seojung works as a grandMA and ETC Eos programmer, with particular experience in opera and musical theatre.
